RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network)
“RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization and was named one of “America’s 100 Best Charities” by Worth magazine. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE and online.rainn.org) in partnership with more than 1,100 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. In 2015, the Online Hotline expanded to offer services in Spanish at rainn.org/es. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help victims and ensure that rapists are brought to justice.” – RAINN
We interpret the Value of Silence as being the pursuit to embrace silence and build an interior life based upon the desire to listen to others. Under our Silence character value, RAINN helps to perpetuate what we stand for. Alpha Sigma Phi is proud to team up with RAINN in an effort to eradicate Sexual Violence nationwide. The Humane Society
“The Humane Society of the United States is the nation’s largest and most effective animal protection organization. The Humane Society and their affiliates provide hands-on care and services to more than 100,000 animals each year, and they professionalize the field through education and training for local organizations. They are the leading animal advocacy organization, seeking a humane world for people and animals alike. They are driving transformational change in the U.S. and around the world by combating large-scale cruelties such as puppy mills, animal fighting, factory farming, seal slaughter, horse cruelty, captive hunts and the wildlife trade.” – The Humane Society
Purity is one of Alpha Sigma Phi’s 5 values and partnering with The Humane Society further perpetuates what we stand for. The gentlemen of Alpha Sig are held to a higher moral and ethical standard which is something shared with the Humane Society. Whether with our peers or the animals around us, Alpha Sig’s are always striving to better themselves and those around them through ethically and morally sound actions and deeds. Big Brothers Big Sisters
“For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.” – Big Brothers Big Sisters
Alpha Sigma Phi sees it as an honorable action to step out of ones world to mentor others while maintaining an upright and dignified life. Our partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters helps us do just that. There is nothing more honorable than helping children and, many times, serving as their mentor ultimately leading them to a prosperous and successful life. For more information, visit www.bbbs.org.
Homes for Our Troops
“Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization building specially adapted, mortgage-free homes nationwide for the most severely injured Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Most of these Veterans have sustained injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives. Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar donated to Homes for Our Troops has gone directly to our program services for Veterans. HFOT builds these homes where the Veteran chooses to live, and continues its relationship with the Veterans after home delivery to assist them with rebuilding their lives.” – Homes for Our Troops
As an Alpha Sig, patriotism is a key value in who we are. We stand devoted to the principles of personal freedom, justice, and civic responsibility. Branching off the latter, we believe that there is no greater responsibility as an American than that to support our veterans as they return from fighting for our country. We have teamed up with Homes for Our Troops as a way to give back to these men and women who have given so much expecting nothing in return. For more information, visit www.hfotusa.org.
Aware Awake Alive
“Aware Awake Alive prevents loss of life to alcohol poisoning by educating teens, young adults and parents on the dangers and symptoms of alcohol overdose. We generate awareness and dialogue around amnesty-based policy and legislation, and create an atmosphere of partnership in which young people, parents, educators, and like-minded organizations share responsibility for supporting and educating one another.” – Aware Awake Alive
A key characteristic of being an Alpha Sig is being charitable and looking beyond the flaws of others in an effort to help the community and better society. Being an organization with Greek framework, we acknowledge that one of the biggest issues that face our communities is alcohol. We have teamed up with Aware Awake Alive as an effort to educate others and ourselves about alcohol poisoning and working to end the issue of overdose and alcohol related health risks. There is nothing more valuable than having the knowledge to know when someone is in a state of risk and how to ensure that the situation does not progress.
